PROF. DR. ASSEN ZLATAROV

Asen Zlatarov was born on February 4, 1885. His father – Hristo Zlatarov, died when his son Asen was 15 years old. This strongly affects the boy’s life. Asen Zlatarov was devoted to science – followed in Switzerland, graduated in Geneva in 1907, then assistant professor Pencho Raikov at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Sofia University, doing research on processes leading to diseases, synthesizing substances with purpose, directs to discoveries. He is the main lender of biochemistry in Bulgaria. His rich multi-directional activity in the service of the people, of life, of humankind, elevates him to the level of the greatest humanists of his time: Henry Barbuis, Romain Roland, Bernard Shaw, Maxim Gorky and others. On December 22, 1936, in Vienna, after a cancer surgery, Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov died.
